Neuron kick-starts Festive #ScootSafe Campaign with safety videos to reinforce responsible riding!

Our Safety Ambassadors will be out in greater numbers to encourage safe riding over the Christmas and New Year period

With the holiday season fast approaching, we are launching a Festive #ScootSafe campaign across Australia, New Zealand and the UK to remind users to ride safely and responsibly in the lead up to Christmas and New Years Eve. In 2021, Neuron has also organised global safety campaigns for Road Safety Week and Helmet Safety Awareness Week.

ScootSafe events are also coming to a city near you where you could stand to spot Santa and his ‘Safety Elves’ promoting the local riding rules. We’ll also be giving free passes to local charities like The People’s Kitchen, and Sunderland Community Action Group, in the UK to aid their volunteers.

Over the festive period, typically e-scooters are used by more people, some of whom may be less familiar with their local rules and safety guidelines. This can lead to an increase in cases of drinking and riding, bad parking and people not wearing helmets – while not mandatory in New Zealand and the UK, are strongly recommended.

Spot these safety videos on our social media pages and find out how you can #ScootSafe with Neuron!

Neuron’s Service Area Expands Across Dunedin

Riders in Dunedin can now ride further for longer, with expanded riding areas just in time for the summer!

Starting today, Neuron’s riding area in Dunedin is expanding to include Kaikorai Valley and the new Peninsula Connection shared path. The expanded area gives residents and visitors more options to move around the city, while supporting local tourism and businesses within the region.

The Kaikorai Valley riding zone will be made available to riders on an ongoing basis, offering greater access to Roslyn, Mornington and the whole length of Kaikorai Valley. Riders have the option to connect with great shops in the area or go up to Moana Pools and on to the city.

Riders can also explore the new Peninsula Connection shared path, a popular trail for residents and visitors alike. The new scenic riding zone will be available for the summer season only, allowing riders to follow the harbour all the way from the City to Macandrew Bay.

We thank the Dunedin City Council and the community for their ongoing support, and look forward to playing a bigger part in their daily commute!

Neuron e-scooters have landed in Christchurch!

Neuron e-scooters have landed in Christchurch!

Christchurch is our latest New Zealand city to host Neuron’s e-scooters, joining the successes of Auckland, Dunedin and Hamilton.

In partnership with Christchurch City Council, our safety-first e-scooters will hit the city’s streets starting 1 October, with e-bikes to follow later in the year. The permit will allow us to operate a total of 800 e-scooters and 200 e-bikes.

Our latest and safest N3 e-scooters are purpose-built for safety and rental. They are equipped with a range of pioneering safety innovations, including the world’s first app-controlled helmet lock, securing a helmet to every e-scooter in between trips; geofencing control; topple detection; a 111 emergency button; voice guidance to educate and warn riders on how to ride safely; and a “Follow my Ride” function, and more.

To mark the occasion, we are launching in Christchurch with 50% off weekday rides from 1-14 October. Riders are able to book and use the e-scooters through our app, with trips costing 50c to unlock (usually NZ$1) and 22c per minute thereafter (usually 45c).

In October, Neuron Passes will also be heavily discounted, and are available in daily ($6.99 down from $9.99), three-day ($9.99 down from $14.99), weekly ($14.99 down from $19.99) or monthly ($30 down from $45) options. The pass enables users to ride as many times as they want for up to 90 minutes per day, resulting in savings of up to 96%.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do, and that is why we are New Zealand’s first — and only — operator to provide third party rider liability insurance for e-scooters and e-bikes. Hop onto our e-scooters for the safe, convenient and environmentally-friendly way to travel today!

Neuron launches inaugural global Helmet Safety Awareness Week!

We're giving our riders even more reasons to put on a helmet and protect themselves with prizes and more incentives

Helmet Safety Awareness Week 2021 (1-10 October) is Neuron’s first annual global safety campaign dedicated towards promoting the importance of wearing a helmet. Across all our markets, we’ve teamed up with our national safety partners, Councils and the Police to promote helmet use and safe riding.

During the campaign, you’ll see #ScootSafe events organised across our cities, riders can earn more incentives when they take an in-app ‘Helmet Selfie’ and we’ll also be running a ‘Wear a Helmet Challenge competition on Instagram. Participants with the best photo submission of themselves wearing Neuron’s helmet stand to win free passes.

We’ve also commissioned our own national Helmet Safety Polls during September 2021, with over 7,000 respondents in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Canada. Nine out of 10 (99% in Australia, 98% in New Zealand, 83% in the UK and 91% in Canada) say it is “important” for e-scooter riders to wear helmets. This is consistent in Korea where 99% of respondents felt that enforcement of helmet use is “necessary” during our earlier poll in May 2021.

Safety is Neuron’s number one priority and with international research showing that 28% of e-scooter injuries occur to the head or neck, we recognise that greater education and incentives to increase helmet use should be the responsibility of every operator.

Helmet Safety Awareness Week is #ScootSafe like you’ve never seen before – so put on your helmets and fasten your straps, cause we’re about to take you for a ride!

Neuron joins The Climate Pledge to achieve net zero target by 2040!

The initiative further supports the sustainability goals of towns and cities across our global operations

We are committing to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040 by joining The Climate Pledge, which is co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism. This announcement builds on our sustainability commitments and certification of global carbon neutral status.

As part of the initiative, we will be regularly measuring and reporting our greenhouse gas emissions as well as implementing a range of decarbonisation strategies. Signatories also commit to neutralising any remaining emissions with offsets to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040 — a decade earlier than specified by the Paris Agreement.

Across our global operations, our rider surveys revealed that around 45% of journeys made on Neuron e-scooters have directly replaced trips that would otherwise have been made in a car. Since launching in 2016, an estimated 1,500 tonnes of CO2 have been saved from entering the atmosphere.

Our distinctive orange e-scooters are designed and purpose-built for safe and sustainable operations, this includes the world’s first battery swappable e-scooter, introduced in 2018. Their modular design allows them to be upgraded and refurbished throughout their life and last 2-5 times longer than many other e-scooters. At the end of their operational life the parts are reclaimed and recycled.
