Neuron Launches New Zealand #ScootSafe Campaign, and Discounted Student Passes!

Our ‘Safety Ambassadors’ will engage with the community to highlight Neuron’s rules and top safety guidelines for riding e-scooters as part of the nationwide campaign.

We’re excited to be launching a series of #ScootSafe briefings in Auckland and Dunedin to promote safe riding. For completing a safety briefing conducted by our Safety Ambassadors, participants will be rewarded with free e-scooter credits for future rides.

Our latest #ScootSafe campaign urges all users, including students, to ride safely and responsibly. With a fresh intake of students at the start of the university academic year, e-scooters may be used by more new riders, some of whom are less familiar with the rules. This can lead to reports of some users riding with more than one person per e-scooter, and a small number of cases of riding under the influence of alcohol.

To coincide with the campaign, Neuron is offering discounted Student Passes which are NZD$60 per month. The packages will allow users to ride as many times as they want for up to 90 minutes per day for a fixed affordable price. This will result in no additional unlocking fees and savings of up to 94%. For more information visit the Rates & Passes page on the Neuron app.

Neuron is reinforcing the following safety messages as part of the #ScootSafe campaign:

  • Riders must be 18 years old and above
  • E-scooters can only be ridden on pavements and roads, except on-road bicycle lanes
  • Only one rider allowed per e-scooter, and no tandem riding with children
  • Safety helmets should be worn, there is one on every e-scooter
  • Maintain a safe distance between riders and pedestrians
  • Give way to pedestrians and mobility devices (such as wheelchairs) at all times
  • Do not ride under the influence of alcohol or any other substance
  • Be aware of the riding environment and remove distractions (including earphones)
  • Park responsibly, don’t obstruct access areas, don’t park too close to a junction

Riders who don’t follow safety rules risk serious injury, Police prosecution, and could have their accounts suspended. Find out more about your local Riding Rules here.

Student Pass terms and conditions:

  • Passes allow for up to 90 minutes of total riding time per day.
  • Passes do not cover trips completed as ‘Group Rides’.
  • Applicable for selected tertiary education institutes only
  • Passes are non-refundable, subject to local laws.

Neuron e-scooters have arrived in Newcastle!

Newcastle becomes the latest UK city to launch our distinctive orange e-scooters

An initial 250-strong fleet of our safety-first e-scooters have arrived on Newcastle’s streets. The trial, which is being operated in partnership with Newcastle City Council, will provide a safe, sustainable and socially distanced way to travel around the city.

Riders in Newcastle will benefit from Neuron’s latest N3 e-scooters which have been purpose-built for safety and renting. They will launch with a range of world-first safety features and pioneering innovations including: our app-controlled helmet lock, geofencing control, a 999 emergency button, voice guidance, topple detection and a “Follow my Ride” function.

Riders who are over 18 and hold a full or provisional driving licence, are able to book and use the e-scooters through our app, with trips costing £1 to unlock the e-scooter and 18 pence per minute thereafter. Our frequent users can also purchase Neuron Passes, available in three-day (£15), weekly (£22), or monthly (£36) options. With this option riders can ride as many times as they want for up to 90 minutes per day, resulting in savings of up to 90%.

Free passes are also available for NHS and Emergency Service workers throughout the lockdown, redeemable through the app, as well as free rides for all commuters during the first three months of the trial between 5am-9am every weekday.

Neuron e-scooters are coming to Dunedin!

We are bringing our distinctive orange e-scooters to Dunedin

Neuron’s e-scooters will soon hit the streets of Dunedin, starting 10 February 2021! The 250-strong fleet will be available to ride across Dunedin Central, Dunedin North, South Dunedin and Musselburgh, providing a safe, convenient and environmentally-friendly way to travel in the city.

Dunedin riders will benefit from Neuron’s latest N3 e-scooters which have been purpose-built for safety and renting. They will launch with a range of world-first safety features and pioneering innovations including: the world’s first app-controlled helmet lock which secures a helmet to every e-scooter in between trips; topple detection; a 000 emergency button; voice guidance to educate and warn riders on how to ride safely; and a “Follow my Ride” function. Geofencing technology will also be used to control where e-scooters can be ridden and parked, and how fast they can travel.

New riders can download our user-friendly app, from the App Store or Google Play and set it up in a matter of minutes. A solo trip will cost NZD$1 to unlock the e-scooter and then 38 cents per minute.

Our subscription service, Neuron Passes, is also available for frequent riders in three-day (NZD$25), weekly (NZD$33), or monthly (NZD$89) options. Users can ride to their hearts’ content for up to 90 minutes per day for an affordable price, generating savings of up to 90%.

We are back on Auckland’s streets for another 12 months!

We are back on Auckland’s streets for another 12 months!

Our distinctive orange e-scooters are back with a range of anti-viral measures to help keep them clean and safe

We are delighted to be back on Auckland’s streets from today, as the city enters alert level 2. Also we are excited to say that Neuron has been awarded a new licence to operate in the city for a further 12 months. The licence, which comes into effect on 4 September 2020, increases our e-scooter fleet from 880 to 930.

We’ll be providing a clean, safe and efficient personal transport option, particularly for those people wishing to continue social distancing while traveling in the city. Riders can rest assured that a range of measures have been introduced to keep our e-scooters clean and to reduce the risks. This includes teams, sanitising around the clock, to make sure our e-scooters are germ-free!

Our latest and safest N3 e-scooters have been on Auckland’s streets since 10 January 2020. We’ve seen a range of benefits since our e-scooters were introduced, from helping tourists explore their city, to extending the range of locals so they can further support local businesses. This is crucial as Auckland continues its economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the restrictions on travel now relaxing, we’re all looking for ways to support local businesses, particularly hard-hit restaurants and cafes. Our e-scooters are the perfect way to regain freedom, while also staying local.

Despite the reduced risk, we recommend that all riders continue to sanitise their hands before and after touching foreign surfaces and this includes our e-scooters. Also if you feel unwell, please don’t take a trip, instead seek medical advice.

We look forward to seeing riders continuing to scoot around Auckland in a safe, convenient and fun way!

During the lockdown period we’ve been providing trips for our public-health heroes and other essential workers in Australia. This has allowed us to refine our operations in line with the evolving coronavirus threat. Our teams are armed with hospital-grade disinfectant designed to kill a broad range of bacteria and viruses including COVID-19.
