Neuron launches Impact Report and pledges to be Carbon Negative by 2025!

We’re committing to a Carbon Negative status for our global operations, as we release Neuron’s first-ever impact report

Our commitment to become Carbon Negative by 2025 follows our Carbon Neutral certification last year and pledge to help reach Net Zero by 2040. This announcement coincides with the launch of our first-ever impact report titled “Meeting Micromobility’s Potential”, which highlights the positive impact of Neuron on the environment, economy and community.

Our Carbon Negative target means Neuron will be taking ambitious measures to reduce its emissions footprint, by addressing emissions-intensive processes in the supply chain, manufacturing, operations and end of life treatment for vehicles.

In the meantime, we remain focused on replacing car journeys with more sustainable options. Our global rider surveys show that over 45% of journeys taken on Neuron’s vehicles last year directly replaced a car trip. With 3 million car journeys avoided in 2021 and an impressive 844 tonnes of carbon emissions saved. We’ve also seen huge growth for Neuron globally as we tripled our operations since September 2020, launching in 22 new cities and continuing to serve the communities we operate in.

During the Covid-19 pandemic Neuron provided frontline workers with 5,000 free monthly passes and a socially discanced way to travel. Trips on a Neuron device also helped connect riders to local retailers, with six out of 10 rides resulting in a purchase. To further support local economies recovering from the pandemic, Neuron was able to create  1,400 employment opportunities worldwide.

Neuron also made a significant investment into safety and innovation, from designing and manufacturing our own e-scooters to our work with safety partners and education programmes. Over the last year Neuron deployed over 325 Safety Ambassadors on the streets to educate riders, delivering 108 safety events, where thousands of face-to-face briefings were conducted as part of the company’s ScootSafe campaigns.

Neuron celebrates Global Road Safety Week to promote safer streets for all!

Our campaign will highlight how riding and parking responsibly can help improve safety outcomes for different members of our communities

We are marking this year’s Global Road Safety Week by teaming up with Blind Citizens Australia (BCA), the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), Thomas Pocklington Trust, Councils, our national safety partners and the local police force to promote safer streets for all from 14-22 May 2022.

The campaign will explore community perspectives around e-scooter use and highlights how responsible use of e-scooters, including good parking, not riding on pavements and maintaining a safe distance from other road users can improve safety outcomes and reassure the entire community. This is especially so for the visually-impaired, those with guide dogs, wheelchair users and the elderly.

#ScootSafe events will be held in every Neuron city during the campaign and participants who take part in a short briefing will earn credits for future rides. To further encourage responsible parking, incentives will be increased during the week when e-scooter trips are ended in a Preferred Parking Zone.

Since launching incentivised Safe Rider Quizzes tailored for every city last Road Safety Week, Neuron’s in-app Safety Center has helped over tens of thousands of our riders familiarise themselves with their local riding rules.

Part of this includes a series of light-hearted videos, albeit with serious messages. The videos will be promoted via a paid social media campaign to encourage viewers to be mindful of their surroundings and considerate of different groups of pedestrians. By watching these videos, participants can take part in Neuron’s social media competition on Instagram and stand a chance to win up to a month of unlimited free rides!

Neuron launches safety-first e-bikes in Christchurch!

Neuron will begin rolling out 150 e-bikes across Christchurch, offering greater access to safe and sustainable transport options

Neuron e-bikes will launch on the streets of Christchurch from Friday 25 February. The arrival is set to complement our existing e-scooter programme, offering riders a multi-modal choice of transport based on their preference and length of trip.

The introduction of Neuron’s EB-1 e-bike to the city gives locals and tourists greater access to sustainable transport options, reducing the reliance on cars for short journeys. Riders taking a longer trips may opt for our pedal-assisted e-bikes over our e-scooters, with the option to travel along dedicated bike lanes and low speed roads.

Neuron e-bikes are GPS-connected and geofenced to control where they can be ridden and parked, as well as how fast they can travel. Riders will benefit from the same cutting-edge safety features brought over from our e-scooter technology, including the world’s first app-controlled helmet-lock that secures to the e-bike in between trips; topple detection; 111 emergency button; voice guidance to educate and warn riders on how to ride safely; and ‘Follow my Ride’ function. There are a large number of convenient incentivised parking stations across the operating area for both e-bikes and e-scooters.

Riders will be able to book and use the e-bikes through Neuron’s user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes. Single trips will cost $1 to unlock the e-bike and 45 cents per minute thereafter. More frequent users have the option to purchase Neuron Passes, a subscription service valid for both e-bikes and e-scooters. They are available in daily, three-day), weekly or monthly  options. The packages will allow users to ride as many times as they want for up to 90 minutes per day for a fixed affordable price. This will result in no additional unlocking fees and savings of up to 96%.

Neuron is now integrated with Google Maps!

The integration is available to Google Maps users across 16 cities worldwide, with more cities to come in 2022

We have officially integrated with Google Maps in Australia, New Zealand and the UK to help commuters easily locate our nearest available e-scooters and e-bikes for a safe and convenient first and last mile transport option. This will enable our riders to better plan their journeys across different modes of transport and make taking an e-scooter or e-bike even easier.

Our riders across these cities will now be able to better plan their journey in real-time. Google Maps can highlight the nearest e-scooter or e-bike, directions and information on how long it will take them to reach it from their previous stop, calculate price estimates based on selected route, the battery range and expected arrival time at their destination. Upon selecting a vehicle, users will be redirected to the Neuron app for unlocking and payment.

Globally, our rider survey has shown that over 45% of trips have already directly replaced a car journey, saving over an estimated 769 tonnes of CO2. Neuron’s safety-first e-scooters and e-bikes have been widely embraced across our cities, helping locals and tourists get around in a safe, sustainable and socially-distanced way.

By making it simpler than ever to ditch the car in favour of an e-scooter and public transport, we hope that this figure can continue to rise over the course of this year!
