Today, Neuron launches a fleet of 50 safety-first e-bikes on the streets of Hamilton. The arrival is set to complement our existing e-scooter programme, offering riders a multi-modal choice of transport based on their preference and length of trip. 

The introduction of Neuron’s EB-1 e-bike to the city gives locals and tourists greater access to sustainable transport options, reducing the reliance on cars for short journeys. Riders taking a longer journey may opt for our pedal-assisted e-bikes over our e-scooters, with the option to travel along dedicated bike lanes and low speed roads. 

Neuron e-bikes are GPS-connected and geofenced to control where they can be ridden and parked, as well as how fast they can travel. Riders will benefit from the same cutting-edge safety features brought over from our e-scooter technology, including the world’s first app-controlled helmet-lock that secures to the e-bike in between trips; topple detection; 111 emergency button; voice guidance to educate and warn riders on how to ride safely; and ‘Follow my Ride’ function. There are a large number of convenient incentivised parking stations across the operating area for both e-bikes and e-scooters. 

Riders will be able to book and use the e-bikes through Neuron’s user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes. Single trips will cost $1 to unlock the e-bike and 45 cents per minute thereafter. More frequent users have the option to purchase Neuron Passes, a subscription service valid for both e-bikes and e-scooters. They are available in daily ($9.99) three-day ($14.99), weekly ($19.99), or monthly ($45) options. The packages will allow users to ride as many times as they want for up to 90 minutes per day for a fixed affordable price. This will result in no additional unlocking fees and savings of up to 96%.

Starting today, Neuron’s riding area in Dunedin is expanding to include Kaikorai Valley and the new Peninsula Connection shared path. The expanded area gives residents and visitors more options to move around the city, while supporting local tourism and businesses within the region.

The Kaikorai Valley riding zone will be made available to riders on an ongoing basis, offering greater access to Roslyn, Mornington and the whole length of Kaikorai Valley. Riders have the option to connect with great shops in the area or go up to Moana Pools and on to the city. 

Riders can also explore the new Peninsula Connection shared path, a popular trail for residents and visitors alike. The new scenic riding zone will be available for the summer season only, allowing riders to follow the harbour all the way from the City to Macandrew Bay.

In partnership with Christchurch City Council, our safety-first e-scooters will hit the city’s streets starting 1 October, with e-bikes to follow later in the year. The permit will allow us to operate a total of 800 e-scooters and 200 e-bikes.

In October, Neuron Passes will also be heavily discounted, and are available in daily ($6.99 down from $9.99), three-day ($9.99 down from $14.99), weekly ($14.99 down from $19.99) or monthly ($30 down from $45) options. The pass enables users to ride as many times as they want for up to 90 minutes per day, resulting in savings of up to 96%.
