Another launch – hello Adelaide!

Another launch – hello Adelaide!

After months of careful planning with the City of Adelaide’s team, our distinctive orange e-scooters - already proven in Brisbane, Darwin and Auckland - are due to hit Adelaide’s pavements tomorrow!

The 800-strong fleet, currently going through pre-deployment checks in our warehouse, have been purpose-built for sharing and safety. They will give Adelaide’s riders an extra level of confidence as they whizz around the city.

All e-scooters will be equipped with exciting new safety features including the world’s first app-controlled Helmet Lock. The lock secures a safety helmet to the e-scooter between bookings, electronically releasing it to use at the start of the trip. This cool new feature was designed to reduce the number of lost and abandoned helmets and make them more available to safety-conscious riders.

Also featured is the new Emergency Button which sends a notification to the rider’s phone asking ‘Are you alright?’ if the e-scooter detects a fall during a trip. Riders can respond by selecting ‘I’m alright’ or ‘I need emergency assistance’ at the touch of a button. If the latter is selected a call is placed directly to the local emergency services.

Download our user-friendly app, from the App Store or Google Play and set it up in a matter of minutes. A solo trip will cost AU$1 to unlock the e-scooter and then 38 cents per minute. Riding enthusiasts can buy Neuron Passes, our new subscription service, available in three-day (AU$25), weekly (AU$33), or monthly (AU$89) options. Users can ride to their hearts’ content for up to 90 minutes per day for an affordable price, generating savings of up to 90%.

It’s great to be in Adelaide – we’re really excited to be doing our bit to make the city become even more connected!

World-first safety features in Brisbane

Safety is our top priority so we’re really excited to introduce the world’s first e-scooter Helmet Lock and also an all-new Emergency Button feature!

The app-controlled Helmet Lock secures a safety helmet to the e-scooter, electronically releasing it to use at the start of the trip. This innovative safety feature was designed to make more helmets available to riders. We’re rolling out in Brisbane at the moment, before launching in other cities over the coming weeks.

Helmet Lock was developed after discussions with Brisbane City Council, to improve overall rider safety by ensuring that helmets are more readily available. We know it will be popular with safety-conscious riders, and from an operational perspective, Helmet Lock will also reduce the number of missing and abandoned helmets too.

Also launched is our new Emergency Button feature which sends a notification to the rider’s phone asking ‘Are you alright?’ if the e-scooter detects a fall during a trip. Riders can respond by selecting ‘I’m alright’ or ‘I need emergency assistance’ at the touch of a button. If the latter is selected a call is placed directly to the local emergency services.

With our city partners we are always looking at ways to improve safety so it’s great to come up with these new initiatives.

5 quick safety tips for your next scooter ride

1. Helmets first

Do you need to wear a helmet while riding an e-scooter in Brisbane? If you ever had any doubts, the answer is yes! It is mandatory by local laws for all riders to wear a helmet. Anyone caught without a helmet while riding can be fined $130.

Helmets On
Helmets on and you’re ready to go

All Neuron scooters have a helmet attached. Rule of thumb – make sure you strap on and buckle up before you start the ride! If you spot a scooter missing a helmet, you can also report it to us by scanning the QR code of the scooter. Our operations team will be on the ground as soon as possible to top them up. Similarly, if you spot a stray helmet, you can also let us know about it via any of our social channels, on Facebook or Instagram

2. One at a time

No doubling up when you’re on a scooter! Our current N3 scooters are designed for individual use. When the weight is overloaded, it might cause it to go off-balance, making it more prone to accidents. So remember – just one at a time!

3. Watch your speed

The Queensland road rules state that the speed limit for rideables, such as e-scooters are capped at a maximum speed of 25km/h. Not to worry if you are on a Neuron scooter as the default speed on our scooters are set to the first mode at 15km/h. The maximum speed on our scooters are capped at 25km/h. You can also refer to how fast you’re going from our scooter dashboard.

Shouldn’t be this quick on a scooter

To further ensure the safety for all users, we have geofencing technology to set up designated speed zones across the Brisbane CBD. Once a scooter enter such Low Speed Zone (denoted by the shaded area in yellow on our in-app map), our scooter will automatically reduce its speed. Nevertheless, it is always important to stay alert and look out for any pedestrians or oncoming traffic.

4. Off the road
This might not be exactly Old Town Road, but the Brisbane roads are definitely not for any horses or scooters. When you’re on a scooter, keep off the road at all times. The only time when you are permitted to do so is when crossing the road or to avoid obstructions on footpaths.

Even on Old Town Road, no scooters allowed

5. Kerbside, best side

Where should you end a trip after completing a ride? We have parking stations located across the city (denoted by the parking P icon) and we strongly encourage all riders to practice considerate riding habits by returning to these locations (PS: There’s a little reward when you return the scooters there!).

When parking the scooters, always park it near the kerbside (at least 75cm away from kerb)  and avoid blocking any footpaths. It is never a nice sight to have scooters or bicycles lying around and obstructing the way. If you happen to spot any non-compliant parking, do contact us through our social channels and our operations team will attend to it as soon as possible.

Game of Thrones
Would ya park on the kerbside?

Let’s do our part for a more pleasant and safer travel journey for all.

5 safety tips for your next electric scooter ride

Get familiar with these tips for a #SaferRide

The use of Personal Mobility Devices (PMD), such as electric scooters has been growing in popularity across the world. Whether is it for daily commutes or delivery of goods, they have changed the way we live and travel. At Neuron, safety is our top priority.

To ensure better public safety and minimise the risk of accidents happening, here are 5 simple tips which you can follow for a #SaferRide.

1. One rider per scooter

The more the merrier, but not on a scooter! The current Neuron scooters are designed for individual use. When the weight is overloaded, it might cause the scooter to go off-balance, making it more prone to accidents. So remember – one at a time!

2. Obey all laws

Regardless whether we are crossing the street as a pedestrian or driving on the roads, we need to abide by the traffic laws and it’s the same for scooter riders! With the increasing use of such PMDs, different cities have adapted different forms of regulations. As members of the public, it is our duty to obey such laws for a safer community.

3. Pay attention to your surroundings

Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings while riding! The rule of thumb is to ditch any form of distractions. Any activities that impede your hearing or sight, could increase the risk of overlooking potential hazard. Such examples include wearing headphones or taking a call, while on the road.

4. Lookout for uneven, protruding and wet surfaces

Uneven surfaces such as potholes and bumps could be a potential hazard for riders, especially for those who are going on a higher speed. Be sure to keep a lookout for such road hurdles and slow down your speed or stop when necessary. Wet surfaces after a rainy day might also cause roads to be extra slippery, so be aware!

5. Park at preferred parking stations

End the trip responsibly by parking your scooter at a preferred parking station! It is never a nice sight to have bikes or scooters lying around and obstructing the way. Besides, these stations can be easily spotted and located within the app. So let’s do our part for a more pleasant and safer travel journey for all. #SaferRide
