Successful 2022 riding season closing in Red Deer and Airdrie

Neuron thanks riders in Airdrie and Red Deer for a successful riding season. October 31 will be the final day to #RideNeuron in both Alberta cities until spring 2023.

Monday, October 31 is the final day to enjoy a Neuron e-scooter ride in Red Deer and Airdrie. The winter weather has crept up so all e-scooters will be collected by Neuron staff before being checked and stored until spring 2023.

2022 was a remarkable year for Neuron e-scooters in both cities and our riders travelled over 310,000 kilometres. To date, the two cities have avoided a total of 49 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

The economic impact of Neuron e-scooters was evident in Red Deer and Airdrie, too. Seven out of 10 trips resulted in a purchase at a local business which amounts to an estimated $3.5 million spent. For a more detailed look at how Neuron e-scooters are helping drive the local economy, check out our 2022 Canada Prosperity Report

We’re proud of the positive impact Neuron vehicles have made on the local communities and are happy to help tens of thousands of people in Red Deer and Airdrie get around in a safe, convenient and environmentally-friendly way.

Thank you to our city partners and riders for an incredible riding season in Canada! See you in 2023!

Neuron celebrates Small Business Week with the launch of Canada Prosperity Report!

New research shows each Neuron e-scooter in Canada contributes $11,300 a year to local businesses

E-scooters are not only a great way to get around town, but also a strong driver of prosperity for local economies. We’re proud to launch the Canadian version of our new Prosperity Report for 2022 titled Shared Rides, Shared Wealth to demonstrate the positive impact we’re making on local economies as we celebrate this year’s Small Business Week. We are also launching versions of the report specific to Australia and the UK.

Each year, riders spend over CAD $13 million at local businesses during their e-scooter trips in Calgary alone, and more than $26 million in total across the six cities where we operate in Canada, including Airdrie, Lethbridge, Ottawa, Red Deer and Vernon.

That’s $11,300 a year per e-scooter deployed, at an average of $27 per trip. Seven in 10 rides result in a purchase at a local business, and 57% of our riders are spending more than $10 every time they hop on an e-scooter, bringing valuable sales to shopping, dining and entertainment venues.

Main streets, a notable hot spot for e-scooter rides, are seeing a much-needed boost from customers on e-scooters after a steady decline over the last few years which was only made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Besides boosting spending, e-scooters also bring other benefits. For one thing, they offer night-time economy workers like doctors and nurses a reliable and convenient alternative to cars and taxis, especially in the wee hours when public transportation services are not readily available. They also help minimize disruption to the community during large-scale events like the Calgary Stampede by absorbing some of the extra demand for transportation.

Neuron celebrates Helmet Safety Awareness Week 2022 for the second year running!

Neuron celebrates Helmet Safety Awareness Week 2022 for the second year running!

Riders are reminded to wear a helmet and ride safely this Helmet Safety Awareness Week and beyond.

From today until 9 October, Neuron celebrates its second Helmet Safety Awareness Week 2022 – an annual global safety campaign dedicated to promoting the importance of helmet wearing and safe and responsible riding.

Around the world, research has shown that e-scooter riders who do not wear helmets are more likely to suffer from serious injuries – 28% of which occur to the head or neck. A recent study by researchers in Finland found that a majority of e-scooter riders who suffer head injuries were not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and that wearing a helmet is a significant factor offering protection from traumatic brain injuries.

This year’s campaign aims to recognise riders who #ScootSafe by wearing helmets. During the week, riders featured on our social media platforms for safe and responsible riding will receive an exclusive rider coupon applicable for their next ride.

Safety remains as Neuron’s number one priority and through Helmet Safety Awareness Week, we hope to be able to promote consistent helmet use amongst riders and encourage safe and responsible riding.

Neuron to stay in Vernon following e-scooter and e-bike sharing program extension!

The City of Vernon will be extending the Neuron e-scooter and e-bike sharing program until 2024

We are delighted to announce that our distinctive orange e-scooters and e-bikes will remain in Vernon following a contract extension from the City of Vernon. The contract, which was previously slated to conclude in April 2023, has been extended to April 2024.

Since launching in July 2021, our vehicles have been embraced by the community, providing a safe and convenient way for locals and tourists to get around. In May 2022, with e-scooters proving to be a popular mode of transport, e-bikes were added to the Vernon fleet and the e-scooter fleet was increased to 350 to meet demand. To date, our riders in Vernon have racked up over 400,000 kilometers, thereby eliminating an estimated 25 tonnes of CO2 emissions by providing an alternative to short car trips.

We have also seen a range of benefits since our e-scooters and e-bikes were introduced, from helping tourists explore the city, to extending the range of locals so they can further support local businesses. Our rider surveys have shown that over half of Neuron rides resulted in a purchase at a business, providing a boost to local businesses in Vernon.

We look forward to continuing to support the city to scoot to their favourite local spots in a safe, convenient and fun way!

Neuron rolls out discounted Concession Pass as part of Neuron Access programme to more cities globally!

We hope to provide greater access to our e-scooter and e-bike services with heavily discounted rides for those in an eligible government support programme

We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our Concession Pass to more cities globally, following the successful launch of our global equity and accessibility programme Neuron Access. Through Concession Pass we aim to make our e-scooter and e-bike services accessible to low-income users, providing up to 50% off an applicable Neuron Pass.

In order to qualify for our Concession Pass, riders must be a current recipient of an eligible government support programme, which we have expanded to include a range of city-specific programmes. Please start an application through the ‘Rates & Passes’ page on the Neuron app to find out more.

Similar to low-cost transit passes offered by public transport services, our Concession Pass makes budgeting for transportation expenditure easier, allowing users to ride more at substantial cost savings and reduced upfront fees. Concession Pass holders will enjoy free rides up to the daily limit with no additional unlocking fees throughout the duration of their pass.

As part of our latest roll out, our Concession Pass is now available in Adelaide, Ballarat, Canberra and Townsville in Australia; and Ottawa in Canada. We have additionally launched in more countries including New Zealand in Christchurch and the UK in Newcastle. This is on top of existing cities including Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne, and Perth in Australia as well as Calgary in Canada.

We are committed to further develop what Neuron Access has to offer and create a wide-scale positive impact on riders within these cities. We hope to continue to lower the barrier to safe and sustainable transportation modes for the communities we serve.
