Neuron launches safety-first e-scooters and e-bikes in Edmonton!

To celebrate the launch, Neuron riders can redeem a free Fixed Fare Pass to enjoy a flat rate of $2.50 per 15 minutes ride

We have been selected to launch in Edmonton and the first of our 600 safety-first e-scooters and 200 e-bikes will be gradually rolled out from June 7 to cover key areas of the city including Downtown, University of Alberta, and Old Strathcona. For a limited time, new riders can redeem a free 30-day Fixed Fare Pass to enjoy all rides at a flat rate of $2.50 for every 15 minutes with no additional charge to unlock the vehicle. This results in a 66% discount compared to a standard trip over the same duration.

Neuron partners with the Traffic Injury Research Foundation to promote e-scooter safety and research in Canada. Users can visit our online riding school, ScootSafe Academy, for their local riding rules and earn free credits for future rides. Our Safety Ambassadors will also be out in greater numbers during the launch period to equip new riders with the confidence to safely ride and park our vehicles.

Neuron’s selection by the City of Edmonton follows a strong track record of partnering with cities, and our leadership and commitment to safety and innovation. With the launch in Edmonton, Neuron now operates in 17 Canadian towns and cities, including seven in Alberta.

Riders will also benefit from a range of pioneering safety innovations including: world’s first integrated helmets; voice guidance; topple detection; a 911 emergency button, and a ‘Follow my Ride’ function for added peace of mind. Advanced geofencing technology will also control where e-scooters are ridden and parked, and how fast they can travel in certain areas.

To ride a Neuron, simply unlock and use the e-scooters through our user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes.

Neuron Uses this Year’s Road Safety Week to Focus on Safe Sidewalks

During this year’s Road Safety Week, we are highlighting how riding and parking e-scooters responsibly can help make the footpaths safer for everyone

To mark our annual Road Safety Week, which starts on 5th May in Australia and the UK and later in the month in Canada and New Zealand, we will be highlighting to riders how they can make footpaths (or sidewalks and pavements, depending on where you live) as safe as possible for the entire community.

This year’s campaign will be run in collaboration with our fantastic safety and accessibility partners, including the Traffic Injury Research Foundation, the Australian Road Safety Foundation and the Royal National Institute for Blind People (RNIB).

The rules as to whether e-scooters should be ridden on the footpaths or roads vary from city to city. In Australia and Canada many cities allow footpath riding with some notable exceptions, like Melbourne for example. Whereas in the UK it is strictly prohibited and riders must stick to cycle lanes and low speed roads.

We will be reinforcing local footpath riding rules and parking etiquette through social media, rider communication, in-person activities, and our online ScootSafe Academy to make footpaths easier to navigate for pedestrians, particularly older people and those with disabilities.

Our e-scooters use a range of technologies, including our groundbreaking AR Parking Assistant, which uses augmented reality combined with geofencing and high-accuracy GPS to help riders find approved parking spots throughout our cities. These technologies, along with Neuron’s end-of-trip photo audit and our e-scooter topple detection, are just a few examples of cutting-edge technology we use to safely control our e-scooters.

Thank you to all of our riders who follow the rules. Let’s all continue to do our part in keeping our footpaths safe and accessible for everyone.

Neuron Celebrates a Fantastic 2023

2023 has been an exciting year for Neuron as we continue to provide an inclusive, sustainable and accessible transportation solution in cities globally.

In 2023, our riders across Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the UK clocked up over 15 million kilometres. That’s like going to the moon and back 20 times. And 46% of these journeys replaced a car trip, saving an estimated 1125 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

In our 35 cities globally we continued our commitment to provide an inclusive and accessible transportation solution. We analysed how the adoption, usage and perception of e-scooters differ between men and women in our 2023 Report Bridging the E-scooter Gender Gap finding that 40% of our riders are women. Our research also found 5% of our riders have a disability or mobility impairment, and Neuron’s e-scooters have empowered them to travel further and more frequently. Our research continues to provide valuable insights into how cities can make safer and more inclusive micromobility programmes for all.

Throughout 2023 we have continued our leadership in technology.  In April we introduced our Augmented Reality (AR) Parking Assistant to enhance parking compliance in cities where designated parking stations are in effect. Powered by Google’s ARCore Visual Positioning System (VPS), the AR Parking Assistant complements the use of GPS to more accurately locate Neuron vehicles so they are parked precisely within a parking station.

In May we also launched our all-new N4 e-scooter in Australia. Designed in-house to deliver unparalleled comfort and stability, the N4 delivers a smoother, faster and more predictable acceleration, and best-in-class hill climbing ability.

Of course, we didn’t forget about safety. Throughout 2023 we regularly ran initiatives to promote safety, including both online and in-person safety events. To round out the year we are currently running our third-annual Festive ScootSafe campaign to further promote safe riding over the summer holidays. Earlier in the year, we renewed our commitment to promote “Safer Streets for All” durinUN Road Safety Week in May, and we provided extra education initiatives and incentives that can help to increase helmet use during Helmet Safety Awareness Week in September.  We also continued to run ScootSafe events in all of our cities, and thousands of riders visited our online riding school ScootSafe Academy for incentivised city-specific training materials.

We’d like to say a big thank you to our wonderful cities, and loyal riders, for their continued trust and support. We look forward to sharing many more exciting journeys with them over the coming year.

Neuron launches third Helmet Safety Awareness Week with national road safety partners!

Our road safety partners share their top reasons for helmet use and why they are the single most important way for riders to protect themselves

We are launching our third-annual Helmet Safety Awareness Week on Monday 18 September in partnership with Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF), Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) in Canada, Brake New Zealand and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in the UK.

Safety is a cornerstone of Neuron’s business and with international research showing that 28% of e-scooter injuries occur to the head or neck, Neuron and their partners are calling for all riders to remember to put on a helmet. During the campaign there will be extra education initiatives and incentives that can help to increase helmet awareness and use.

Here are the top five compelling reasons to wear a helmet:

  1. Enhancing Personal Safety: Wearing a helmet significantly reduces the risk of sustaining a severe injury by an impressive 70%. It acts as your reliable safeguard, offering crucial protection in the event of an unforeseen accident.
  2. Legal Compliance and Financial Savings: Embracing helmets isn’t just a personal choice; in many cities around the world it’s also a legal requirement. By wearing a helmet, you not only follow the law but also avoid heavy fines, ensuring journeys remain safe, legal and also budget-friendly.
  3. Increased Visibility for All: Beyond personal safety, helmets serve as a means of increasing your visibility on the road. Bright helmets ensure that you’re noticed by fellow commuters, contributing to safer shared spaces.
  4. Protection from the Weather: Helmets are not just for impact protection; they also shield you from the elements. Whether it’s rain, wind, or harsh sunlight, your helmet acts as a reliable barrier, making your rides comfortable regardless of the weather.
  5. Leading by Example: As a responsible road user, you hold the power to set a positive precedent for others. By donning your helmet, you inspire a culture of safety-conscious behaviour, making streets safer for everyone.

In 2020 Neuron launched the world’s first app-controlled Helmet Lock which integrates a helmet to every e-scooter and e-bike. Riders are encouraged to take an in-app ‘Helmet Selfie’ before their trip and earn free credits as well as visit our online ScootSafe Academy for more incentives by completing city-specific training content.

Neuron launches its latest Impact Report to highlight the positive impact on the community!

Read full report here

We are thrilled to launch our latest Impact Report which shows how we are driving positive change in the communities we operate in. The report also outlines our progress in becoming Carbon Negative by 2025 while quantifying the economic benefits of e-scooters and how Neuron is reducing mobility barriers for all.

We clocked over 9 million trips in 2022 with 45% of all trips replacing a car journey, eliminating 1,205 metric tonnes of CO2. We also conducted an in-depth analysis of our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in 2021 to create a baseline for future measurements. In a first for the industry, we also designed and manufactured our latest e-scooter, the all-new N4 e-scooter, with 80% recycled aluminium.

For the first time, we quantified the significant economic contribution our operations are making in the cities we serve. Globally, seven in 10 Neuron trips resulted in a purchase at a local business, and in Australia, this translated to each e-scooter contributing a massive spending of $70,000 each year.

To create meaningful employment opportunities for people from a diverse range of backgrounds, Neuron worked closely with non-profit organisations including Workskil Australia, Recovery Your Way and Killara Foundation among others.

Providing a new perspective on e-scooter riders, we highlighted how 5% of Neuron users have a disability or mobility impairment. More riders are also benefiting from heavily discounted or free concession passes as we continue to bring Neuron Access, our global equity and accessibility programme, to more parts of the world.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. We launched our online riding school, ScootSafe Academy, to gamify rider education and deliver refresher training for those who break the rules. We delivered a range of safety initiatives including our annual Global Road Safety Week, where we teamed up with our national road safety partners and leading sight-loss charities to create a series of rider education materials to promote “Safer Streets for All”.
