Neuron launches fourth Festive ScootSafe campaign to promote sober scooting!

We are thrilled to launch our fourth-annual Festive ScootSafe campaign on December 2 across our global markets. In partnership with the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) and the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) in Canada, our goal is to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and riding e-scooters and to share essential safety tips for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

During the festive season alcohol consumption can double, with many people more likely to overindulge than any other time of the year. While most drink responsibly, those who don’t risk hangovers, reduced productivity, strained relationships, and the temptation to drink and drive, with potentially life-changing consequences. To combat riding under the influence, at key times over the festive season, Neuron users will be required to take an in-app cognitive reaction test before starting their trip. Riders who fail the test will be locked out of the service.

Together with ARSF and TIRF, here are our top safety tips for riding during the holiday season:

  • Don’t ride while intoxicated. Plan a safe way home by taking public transport, catching a lift or walking.
  • Ride to the conditions. Use good judgement and ride slowly when navigating through areas with high foot traffic, low visibility, or slippery or icy surfaces due to winter.
  • Wear a helmet to significantly reduce the risk of sustaining a severe injury by a massive 70%.
  • Stay off your phone and remove earphones to avoid distractions. Keep both hands on e-scooter handlebars, stay alert and fully focused on the surroundings.
  • Give way to pedestrians and mobility devices, such as wheelchairs. Ring the bell to alert others before overtaking.
  • Follow local parking guidelines. Ensure e-scooters are parked properly so they don’t block pathways or disrupt pedestrian flow.

Throughout the campaign, our Safety Ambassadors will be at key e-scooter locations to promote safe riding and parking. We encourage riders to visit our online ScootSafe Academy for incentivised quizzes, videos, and games. Keep an eye on our social media for these festive safe riding tips but, most importantly, let’s enjoy the festivities safely and responsibly!

Neuron’s safety-first e-scooters are returning to Brisbane!

Neuron’s safety-first e-scooters are returning to Brisbane!

We look forward to returning with renewed energy and will pick up where we left off when it comes to serving the city

After a three-month hiatus from Brisbane, we are thrilled to announce our return to the city in early December following a renewed contract awarded by Brisbane City Council. We remain as Brisbane’s longest-serving e-scooter company, having operated since 2019 all through to late July 2024.

Over the years, Neuron built up significant trust and goodwill with the council, local community, and loyal riders who travelled close to 13 million kilometres, saving 886 tonnes of CO2. Our vehicles have also boosted Brisbane’s economy, contributing an annual spending of $97,000 at local businesses per e-scooter deployed.

Brisbane was our first Australian city, and in many ways, it has pioneered the use of micromobility. In partnership with Brisbane City Council, we’ve introduced the world’s first app-controlled Helmet Lock to increase helmet availability, pioneered a full suite of geofencing in the city, as well as many more since launch.

We thank Brisbane City Council for the trust and support, and look forward to being back serving our wonderful Brisbane riders.

Neuron celebrates fourth Helmet Safety Awareness Week with golden helmets!

Riders who spot and wear our special edition golden helmet when riding a Neuron e-scooter stand to win free trips

We are kicking off our fourth Helmet Safety Awareness Week from 21 to 29 September across Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the UK. This year’s campaign, also referred to as ‘Golden Helmet Week’, will be launched in partnership with the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) and the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) in Canada.

Wearing a helmet when riding an e-scooter is a legal requirement in Australia and some cities across Canada, but they are also strongly advised in New Zealand and the UK. To build on our ongoing efforts to promote helmet use, we are committing up to AU$100,000 globally through helmet incentives, in-person and online rider education, as well as a rider competition.

During the campaign, we will be equipping golden helmets on a handful of e-scooters in each city for the ‘Golden Helmet Challenge’. Simply find one, unlock it from the e-scooter’s app-controlled helmet lock, then wear them to protect yourself, and stand a chance to win a free trip on us. For an extra bonus, take an in-app ‘helmet selfie’ to earn credits for future rides.

Our Safety Ambassadors will be out in greater numbers at e-scooter hotspots or at ScootSafe events throughout the week, reminding users to follow the riding rules. We will also be promoting safe riding through a series of safety videos on social media and rider emails, as well as through incentivised quizzes, videos and games on our online ScootSafe Academy.

Helmets are one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent serious injury in the unlikely event of an accident. Everyone should wear a helmet to protect themselves during Helmet Safety Awareness Week and beyond!

Neuron partners with Launch Housing to tell hidden stories of homelessness with urban e-scooter tours!

The guided tour on our e-scooters will visit locations across Melbourne’s CBD to spotlight those hard at work to end homelessness

We are thrilled to partner with Launch Housing, a Melbourne-based specialist homelessness and community housing organisation, for a series of e-scooter guided tours titled ‘Eyes Open Ride: Stories from the Streets’ over the Open House Melbourne weekend from 27 to 28 July. It aims to highlight the issue of homelessness in the city, and is an extension of the Melbourne Zero movement, which aims to end rough sleeping by 2030.

The unique hour-long tour will visit often-overlooked locations across Melbourne’s CBD while riding on Neuron’s distinctive orange e-scooters. Guided by Launch Housing’s wonderful team, participants will have the opportunity to hear from them and also supporting organisations like Youth Projects, The Big Issue, and the City Library, to learn about the role they are all playing to help eradicate homelessness in Melbourne.

The ‘Eyes Open Ride’ tour allows riders to see the city from a new perspective. It aims to foster greater empathy towards people experiencing homelessness while encouraging the community to learn more about its underlying causes.

Neuron is committed to continuing our support for Launch Housing in making Melbourne a liveable city for all. This includes providing free e-scooter trips for outreach efforts by case workers and staff, as well as raising funds and awareness for the cause, and more. As proud members of Melbourne Zero, it is important for us to invest in meaningful partnerships to create a positive impact on the communities we serve.

World First: Neuron introduces a full fleet of AI-powered cameras to Melbourne!

Melbourne will be the world's first major international city to roll out e-scooters with front-facing AI-powered cameras at scale

Over the coming months, we have committed to launching our ‘ScootSafe Vision’ system across our entire 1,250-strong fleet in Melbourne. Every Neuron e-scooter will be equipped with a front-facing camera that uses advanced AI computer vision technology to detect and correct footpath riding. It will also be used to identify and warn riders of pedestrians in their path, and collect valuable data on road surfaces.

The system, which was developed in-house, detects whether an e-scooter is on the footpath in under a second. Offending riders receive a real-time audio alert telling them, “Footpath riding detected; please ride on the road,” as well as follow-up warnings and educational material. Repeat offenders can also be suspended after their trip. ‘ScootSafe Vision’ can also be configured to reduce the e-scooter’s speed, effectively forcing riders to leave the footpath.

To further increase safety, the system also alerts riders to pedestrians in their path using the e-scooter’s voice guidance, instructing them to “Watch out for pedestrians and slow down.” Looking into the future, it will also be collecting data on uneven road surfaces, including potholes. This could help map potentially hazardous areas and set speed limits throughout the riding area, while also providing councils with useful information for urban planning.

Our ‘ScootSafe Vision’ system has been tested in Melbourne over the past six months, covering over 30,000 kilometres to train the technology to recognise the city’s streets and footpaths.

Melbourne is a great city and we are delighted to invest in world-class technology to integrate our e-scooters in the best possible way.
