Perth, Australia, 23 December, 2021 – Neuron Mobility, Australia and New Zealand’s leading e-scooter operator, has been selected to provide e-scooters in the suburbs of Perth as part of a 12-month trial with the City of Stirling to run the city’s first ever rental e-scooter programme, due to start early next year.

The company was selected due to its strong track record of partnering with councils, and its leadership when it comes to safety and innovation. Neuron will invest significantly into the city, creating approximately 30 jobs which will be recruited locally.

Richard Hannah, Head of Australia and New Zealand at Neuron Mobility, said: We are delighted to have been chosen by the City of Stirling to provide our e-scooters as part of a 12-month trial and thank them for their trust and support. E-scooters are really well suited to the city and they will be a great way for locals as well as tourists to travel in a safe, convenient and environmentally-friendly way. Elsewhere in Australia, they are significantly reducing congestion and emissions while also helping to boost the local economy.

He continued: “Safety is our top priority, it dictates our e-scooter design and also the way we operate them. Our e-scooters are packed with a range of cutting-edge safety features and we know from experience in other cities that riders really appreciate this.”

This is Neuron’s first Western Australian announcement since amended regulations supporting e-scooters in Western Australia came into effect on 4 December. Elsewhere, cities in Victoria, Queensland, ACT, South Australia and Northern Territory are already benefiting from the company’s industry-leading e-scooters, which have been purpose-built to a commercial grade, specifically for renting.

In May 2021, Neuron launched Australia’s first — and only — third party rider liability insurance for e-scooters, in a move to protect and reassure riders as well as the wider community. The provision of third party rider liability insurance goes well beyond what is required by law and further demonstrates Neuron’s commitment to operating in the safest, most responsible way.

Neuron’s latest and safest next-generation e-scooters have visibly larger, 11.5” wheels and wider footplates than other e-scooters for added stability, and offer a range of world-first safety features and pioneering innovations. This includes an app-controlled Helmet Lock which secures a safety helmet to the e-scooter, electronically releasing it to use at the start of the booking, and a topple detection feature that can detect if an e-scooter has been left on its side, alerting the operations team to reposition it safely.

The distinctive safety orange e-scooters feature a 000 emergency button which can tell if someone has a fall and helps them call the emergency services; voice guidance to educate and warn riders of how to ride safely; and geofencing technology to control where e-scooters are ridden and parked, and how fast they can travel in certain areas. Neuron also developed a Follow My Ride feature which allows riders to share their trip with friends and family in real time, for added safety and peace of mind.

Riders will be able to book and use the e-scooters through Neuron’s user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes.
