PERTH, Australia, 15 February, 2022 – The City of Stirling and leading e-scooter operator Neuron Mobility, have announced that e-scooters will be available to hire on the streets from tomorrow, 16 February. The 12-month trial is the city’s first rental e-scooter programme and will see the gradual roll-out of 250 of Neuron’s purpose-built e-scooters, to cover a 26 square kilometre riding area including Watermans Bay, Scarborough, Trigg, Karrinyup, and Innaloo.

Neuron was selected due to its strong track record of partnering with councils, and its leadership when it comes to safety and innovation. The company will invest significantly into the city, creating approximately 25 jobs which will be recruited locally.

Richard Hannah, Head of Australia and New Zealand at Neuron Mobility, said: We are delighted to be launching in Stirling and look forward to partnering with the Council to deliver a safe and convenient service to help people move around the city. E-scooters are really well suited to the area and they will be a great way for locals as well as tourists to travel in a safe, convenient and environmentally-friendly way.”

He continued: “Safety is our top priority, it dictates our e-scooter design and also the way we operate them. Our e-scooters are packed with a range of cutting-edge safety features and we know from experience in other cities that riders really appreciate this.”

This is Neuron’s first Western Australian launch; elsewhere, cities in Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania, ACT, South Australia and Northern Territory are already benefiting from the company’s industry-leading e-scooters, which have been purpose-built to a commercial grade, specifically for renting and rider safety.

In May 2021, Neuron launched Australia’s first third party rider liability insurance for e-scooters, in a move to protect and reassure riders as well as the wider community. The provision of third party rider liability insurance goes well beyond what is required by law and further demonstrates Neuron’s commitment to operating in the safest, most responsible way.

Geofencing technology will also control where e-scooters are ridden and parked, and how fast they can travel in certain areas. In The City of Stirling this will include a No Parking Zone in Trigg Bushland Reserve. There will also be various slow zones in popular places such as Scarborough and Trigg Beach.

Neuron e-scooters feature an app-controlled Helmet Lock, which secures a safety helmet to the e-scooter, electronically releasing it to use at the start of the booking. Riders will benefit from voice guidance to educate them on how to travel safely; a Follow My Ride feature which allows riders to share their trip with friends and family in real time for added safety; and a 000 emergency button which can tell if someone has had a fall, then help them call the emergency services. A topple detection feature will alert Neuron’s operations team if an e-scooter has been left on its side so it can be repositioned. They also have visibly larger, 11.5” wheels and wider footplates than other e-scooters, and deliver the highest levels of safety, stability and rider experience, to give users an extra level of confidence.

Riders will be able to book and use the e-scooters through Neuron’s user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes. Single trips will cost AUD$1 to unlock the e-scooter and 45 cents per minute thereafter. More frequent users have the option to purchase Neuron Passes, a subscription service, available in one-day (AUD$15), three-day (AUD$25), weekly (AUD$33), or monthly (AUD$99) options. The packages will allow users to ride as many times as they want for up to 90 minutes per day for a fixed affordable price with no additional unlocking fee.
