Neuron notches up one million kilometres and expands Townsville’s riding area for e-scooters!

The milestone comes as we announce plans to expand the riding area on Friday 8 April, with an additional 200 e-scooters added to our safety-first fleet.

Since first launching in September 2020, Neuron has gone from strength to strength in Townsville with riders notching up over one million kilometres travelled. The milestone comes as Townsville City Council approves Neuron’s application to expand the riding area. To support the expansion, planned to roll-out on Friday 8 April, there will be an additional 200 e-scooters – bringing our fleet from 250 to 450 e-scooters and creating 15 new jobs sourced locally.

The expanded service area will mean e-scooters can be ridden in Rowes Bay, Belgian Gardens, West End, Currajong, Pimlico, Hyde Park, Hermit Park, Mysterton, South Townsville and Railway Estate, covering a further 16 square kilometres. A recent survey found that 70 per cent of e-scooter rides in Townsville resulted in a purchase, with the expansion set to be welcomed by local businesses within the new zone.

Neuron’s e-scooters have been embraced by residents, with a recent rider survey showing an overwhelming 90 per cent of riders believe Neuron has made a positive impact on the city. The average trip length in the is 1.9km and, an impressive 46 per cent of all trips replaced a car journey, eliminating an estimated 73 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

We’re excited to grow our fleet of e-scooters in the city, equipped with a range of pioneering safety innovations, including the world’s first app-controlled helmet lock, securing a helmet to every e-scooter in between trips; geofencing control; topple detection; a 000 emergency button; voice guidance to educate and warn riders on how to ride safely; a “Follow my Ride” function, and more.

Neuron heads to universities during O-Week for student safe riding campaign!

As students return to campus, Neuron and The Australian Road Safety Foundation take the opportunity to remind riders of safe e-scooter riding rules

Students will soon be returning to campuses across Australia, with many choosing e-scooters as a convenient way to travel between classes. In line with O Week, we’re teaming up with ARSF to launch a student-focused safe riding campaign.

We’re thrilled to work with local universities to educate their students on safe riding practices ahead of their return to face-to-face learning.

At our ScootSafe events, new students will have the opportunity to take a safety briefing where they can learn about Neuron’s safe riding rules and the many safety features on their e-scooters. Completing the briefing ensures that riders have the knowledge and confidence to ride Neuron’s e-scooters safely. Neuron’s Safety Ambassadors will also be out in greater numbers during the first few weeks of classes  in order to assist new riders with signing up on the app, and deliver practical tips for safe riding.

The campaign will run at the following universities and locations:

  • Melbourne ACU Campus on March 1, between 9:00am – 3pm
  • Ballarat ACU Market Day on March 2, between 11:00am – 2:00pm
  • Frankston Monash Peninsula Campus on February 25, 1pm – 3pm
  • Hobart University of Tasmania Sandy Bay Campus on February 23, between 11:00am – 1:30pm
  • Canberra ANU Market Day on February 16, between 9:00am – 3:30pm
  •

At each event, we’ll be shining a light on some of our safe riding in-app initiatives such as the  ‘helmet selfie’ feature which rewards riders with free credits if they take a picture of themselves wearing the helmet, as well as Neuron’s city-specific Safe Rider Quiz, which rewards each rider with $5 worth of e-scooter credits, upon completion.
