Neuron launches Impact Report and pledges to be Carbon Negative by 2025!

We’re committing to a Carbon Negative status for our global operations, as we release Neuron’s first-ever impact report

Our commitment to become Carbon Negative by 2025 follows our Carbon Neutral certification last year and pledge to help reach Net Zero by 2040. This announcement coincides with the launch of our first-ever impact report titled “Meeting Micromobility’s Potential”, which highlights the positive impact of Neuron on the environment, economy and community.

Our Carbon Negative target means Neuron will be taking ambitious measures to reduce its emissions footprint, by addressing emissions-intensive processes in the supply chain, manufacturing, operations and end of life treatment for vehicles.

In the meantime, we remain focused on replacing car journeys with more sustainable options. Our global rider surveys show that over 45% of journeys taken on Neuron’s vehicles last year directly replaced a car trip. With 3 million car journeys avoided in 2021 and an impressive 844 tonnes of carbon emissions saved. We’ve also seen huge growth for Neuron globally as we tripled our operations since September 2020, launching in 22 new cities and continuing to serve the communities we operate in.

During the Covid-19 pandemic Neuron provided frontline workers with 5,000 free monthly passes and a socially discanced way to travel. Trips on a Neuron device also helped connect riders to local retailers, with six out of 10 rides resulting in a purchase. To further support local economies recovering from the pandemic, Neuron was able to create  1,400 employment opportunities worldwide.

Neuron also made a significant investment into safety and innovation, from designing and manufacturing our own e-scooters to our work with safety partners and education programmes. Over the last year Neuron deployed over 325 Safety Ambassadors on the streets to educate riders, delivering 108 safety events, where thousands of face-to-face briefings were conducted as part of the company’s ScootSafe campaigns.

Neuron celebrates Global Road Safety Week to promote safer streets for all!

Our campaign will highlight how riding and parking responsibly can help improve safety outcomes for different members of our communities

We are marking this year’s Global Road Safety Week by teaming up with Blind Citizens Australia (BCA), the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), Thomas Pocklington Trust, Councils, our national safety partners and the local police force to promote safer streets for all from 14-22 May 2022.

The campaign will explore community perspectives around e-scooter use and highlights how responsible use of e-scooters, including good parking, not riding on pavements and maintaining a safe distance from other road users can improve safety outcomes and reassure the entire community. This is especially so for the visually-impaired, those with guide dogs, wheelchair users and the elderly.

#ScootSafe events will be held in every Neuron city during the campaign and participants who take part in a short briefing will earn credits for future rides. To further encourage responsible parking, incentives will be increased during the week when e-scooter trips are ended in a Preferred Parking Zone.

Since launching incentivised Safe Rider Quizzes tailored for every city last Road Safety Week, Neuron’s in-app Safety Center has helped over tens of thousands of our riders familiarise themselves with their local riding rules.

Part of this includes a series of light-hearted videos, albeit with serious messages. The videos will be promoted via a paid social media campaign to encourage viewers to be mindful of their surroundings and considerate of different groups of pedestrians. By watching these videos, participants can take part in Neuron’s social media competition on Instagram and stand a chance to win up to a month of unlimited free rides!

Neuron raises USD$43.5 million in latest funding round to fuel international expansion and technology leadership!

Neuron raises USD$43.5 million in latest funding round to fuel international expansion and technology leadership!

The company remains laser-focused on its unique global expansion strategy.

Today we announced that we have successfully raised USD$43.5 million in a Series B investment round, bringing our total capital to USD$77.7 million. This investment round was co-led by global venture firms GSR Ventures and Square Peg. Singapore’s EDBI, a global Asia-based investor, also joined the round. The fresh capital raised will fuel our unique international expansion strategy, as well as reinforce our technology leadership.

Since our last funding round 19 months ago, we have more than tripled our global operations, expanding our fleet into 26 cities. We are also pleased to note that all of our existing city permits were successfully renewed, which we think shows our commitment to being the best partners we can be in cities.

In Australia, we have reinforced our position as the country’s leading micromobility operator. After recent launches in Melbourne, Hobart, Launceston, Perth, and Sydney, Neuron now operates in every Australian capital city, bringing the total number of operational cities in Australia to 14. We had new country launches in South Korea and the UK, and also became the fastest-growing e-scooter operator in Canada after launching in five cities including Calgary and Ottawa.

On the technology front, the investment will fund the design and manufacture of our safety-first e-scooters, as well as the development and roll out of a range of innovative technology at scale. This vertically-integrated approach – which differs from most other shared micromobility companies – will allow us to quickly adapt and update our vehicles to perform better and last longer.

Increasingly, more cities are choosing to limit the number of micromobility operators by awarding long-term contracts to only the best and most innovative micromobility providers. Over the next 12 months, we aim to continue our global expansion plans focused on winning such cities, while advancing our safety and technology leadership.

Neuron expands to every Australian capital city, launching safety-first e-bikes in Sydney!

Neuron will begin rolling out 250 e-bikes across Sydney CBD, Waverley and Randwick, from 14 April

A fleet of 250 safety-first e-bikes will be hitting the streets of Sydney, available to hire across Sydney CBD, Waverley and Randwick, including the popular tourist areas of Bondi and Coogee. The expansion marks our first location in New South Wales and sees Neuron grow our presence to every capital city around Australia.

This wide-acceptance of micromobility in Australia signals an increased interest for e-scooters and e-bikes as they become an integral part of the transport mix. Recent rider research shows that 45 per cent of rides have replaced a car trip, reducing emissions and congestion, and on average 85 per cent of users believe Neuron has had a positive impact on the city.

To help riders to better plan their journeys, Neuron e-bikes will be integrated with Google Maps. The service highlights the nearest Neuron e-bike, directions to get there and how long it will take – also calculating a price estimate based on the selected route. Riders in Sydney will also benefit from Neuron’s Global Access program, with low income users being eligible for Concession Passeses via various government support programs.

Neuron’s GPS-connected e-bikes are geofenced to control where they can be ridden and parked and how fast they can travel in certain areas. There are a large number of convenient incentivised parking stations across the operating area for the e-bikes. Our e-bikes are fitted with the same cutting-edge safety features as seen in our e-scooter technology. These include an app-controlled helmet lock; topple detection; 000 emergency button; and voice guidance to help you ride safely. The e-bikes will also feature a ‘Follow My Ride’ function that allows riders to share their trip with friends and family in real time, for added safety and peace of mind.

Riders will be able to book and use the e-bikes through Neuron’s user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes. Single trips will cost $1 to unlock the e-bike and 45 cents per minute thereafter. More frequent users have the option to purchase Neuron Passes with no additional unlocking fee, available in one-day (AU$15) three-day (AU$25), weekly (AU$33), or monthly (AU$99) options.

Neuron introduces discounted Concession Pass with the launch of global equity and accessibility programme Neuron Access!

New Concession Pass for low-income users will provide the community with greater access to Neuron’s micromobility services

We are thrilled to be launching a Concession Pass for low-income users, as part of our global equity and accessibility programme, Neuron Access, which aims to make Neuron’s e-scooter and e-bike services accessible to underserved communities. The discounted pass will provide up to 50% off an applicable Neuron Pass.

Similar to low-cost transit passes offered by public transport services, Neuron’s Concession Pass makes budgeting for transportation expenses easier, allowing users to ride more at substantial cost savings and lower upfront fees. Concession Pass holders also benefit from unlimited rides for 90 minutes per day with no additional unlocking fees throughout the duration of their pass.

To qualify, an individual is required to provide the relevant concession proofs from an eligible government support programme, which riders can refer to on the Neuron app. The eligibility status of Concession Pass holders is valid for 12 months and can be renewed after.

The Concession Pass is currently available to users in Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne and Perth in Australia as well as Calgary in Canada, but will be available in more cities across our markets this year. Neuron also plans to expand its Neuron Access offerings to more segments of the country’s underserved communities.
