Would You Pass the Test? Neuron Activates In-App Drink Riding Check

This year’s Festive ScootSafe campaign raises awareness of the dangers of drink riding and encourages riders to plan ahead

As festive celebrations get underway, many people are expected to drink more than usual — and December is the time when more people are tempted to drink and ride. To help keep the streets safe, we’re launching our fifth annual Festive ScootSafe campaign, combining smart technology, education and community engagement to deter drink riding.

Riders must ‘pass the test’ before unlocking an e-scooter

This year’s campaign features Neuron’s in-app cognitive reaction test, designed to help riders assess their readiness to ride. On key dates and times in the lead-up to Christmas and New Year’s Eve, riders will need to “pass the test” before unlocking an e-scooter.

The quick in-app test identifies potential signs of impairment — and those who fail are temporarily locked out of the service, preventing unsafe rides before they begin. It’s a simple but effective reminder that alcohol and e-scooters don’t mix.

Safety Ambassadors hit the streets with breathalysers

In some cities, our Safety Ambassadors will be out engaging with riders and the wider community. Equipped with breathalysers, they’ll demonstrate how alcohol can linger in the system longer than many people expect and highlight the risks of riding under the influence.

Drink riding is both dangerous and illegal. As well as the obvious safety concerns, riders caught operating an e-scooter while under the influence can face serious consequences — including permanent suspension from Neuron’s service and the potential loss of their driver’s licence.

Staying safe this festive season

We’re encouraging all riders to plan ahead and make responsible choices. Whether celebrating at a Christmas party or attending a concert or sporting event, it’s important to think carefully about how to get home safely.

Top tips for riders:

  • Never drink and ride
  • Always wear a helmet
  • Only one person per e-scooter
  • Stay alert and ride to the conditions
  • Give way to pedestrians and park responsibly
